Black Dance has been increasing since the late 1800’s with the development of Minstrel Shows. We as a people were still developing a pride and love for our culture caused a big change in the dance world. Former slaves created movements that told a story the world had never seen. Over the past 100 years Black Dance has branched out of the Minstrel feel and has developed into all forms, such as ballet, tap, modern, hip-hop, and much more. All their pain, joy, love, fears, determination, and hope have been put into this form of art. Dance is a part of our culture and will never leave. It is up to us to carry on the legacy that was created for us and by us. These movements will live on like the ones that were performed in our praise houses, Jook Joints, rent parties, dance halls, opera houses, and the grand stage. We will keep it close to our hearts to be a consent reminder of why our bodies are never at rest.
